Winter Colors of the Western Balkans – 11 Day Tour

11 Days, Private Journey

An 11-day private winter journey through four Balkan countries — from the snow-clad Alps of Theth and the ski slopes of Kolašin and Brezovica, through the old bazaars of Prizren and Skopje, to the UNESCO lakeside town of Ohrid.

There is a version of the Western Balkans that only reveals itself once the snow falls. The peaks above Theth turn silent and white. Kolašin's slopes fill with fresh powder beneath the Bjelasica massif. The Rugova Canyon becomes a corridor of ice and stone, and the lakeside towns of Ohrid and Skopje slow to a quieter, more contemplative rhythm. This is winter in the Balkans — dramatic, uncrowded, and largely undiscovered by the wider world.

Winter Colors in the Balkans is an 11-day private journey through four countries, built for travelers who want a genuine winter adventure — not a repackaged summer itinerary with a coat on. Over the course of this tour, you will hike into a snow-covered alpine village, spend two nights at one of Europe's best-value ski resorts, cross a canyon carved by ice, taste Kosovo's most celebrated winter dish in Prizren's old quarter, and finish among the frozen shores of two of the Balkans' great lakes. Every detail — the vehicle, the guide, the hotel, the table you sit at for dinner — has been chosen to the same standard: quietly excellent, never generic.

  • Walk Krujë's hilltop castle, old bazaar & the Skanderbeg Museum
  • Farm-to-table lunch at Mrizi i Zanave, on a working Albanian farm
  • Explore snow-covered Theth National Park, with an optional hike to the Blue Eye Theth
  • Ski Kolašin's slopes or explore the primeval forests of Biogradska Gora National Park, over two relaxed nights
  • Cross the ice-lined Rugova Canyon into Kosovo, stopping at the White Drin Waterfall
  • Visit the Visoki Dečani Monastery en route to Prizren
  • Traditional fli and vezhki me shpatë lunch, prepared before you in Prizren's old quarter
  • A second ski morning in Brezovica before continuing to Skopje's old bazaar
  • Visit Tetovo's Painted Mosque and historic Bektashi Teqe en route to Mavrovo
  • Explore Ohrid's UNESCO old town, including Church of St. John at Kaneo and St. Sophia, with a wine tasting at a family winery
  • Close the journey at St. Naum Monastery and Drilon, before a farewell dinner in Tirana

A Glimpse of the Journey

Why This Journey

What Makes This Journey Different

Built for real winter roads, not just winter views.

Your private vehicle is an Audi A8 Quattro or a genuine 4x4 (Toyota Land Cruiser or Mitsubishi Pajero, depending on group size) — not a standard sedan pressed into service for a season it wasn't built for. Your licensed, multilingual guide-driver — knows these mountain roads through every season.

Four countries, one continuous winter story.

From the Albanian Alps to Montenegro's premier ski resort, from the frozen canyons of Kosovo to the mosques and lakes of North Macedonia, this route is woven into a single, logical journey — never backtracking, never wasted.

Genuine culinary experiences, not just meals.

A farm-to-table lunch at Mrizi i Zanave. A traditional dinner in the mountain town of Kolašin. A Prizren lunch built around vezhki me shpatë (spit-roasted meat) and fli, prepared in front of you. A wine tasting and lunch at a family winery in Ohrid — or a traditional restaurant lunch instead, for those who prefer no alcohol. A farewell dinner or craft beer tasting in Tirana to close the journey. No compromise on quality either way.

Handled with care, down to the smallest logistics

Your first day is intentionally free of touring — a chance to rest after your flight before the journey begins in earnest the following morning. Every hotel is 4-5★ or a carefully chosen boutique property.
